Last updated: 19 September 2026. This page describes how Story OS handles data in the current product. It is based on the application's published behavior, not on a separate legal review.
Who this covers
Story OS is a novel-writing application available as a web app at mystoryos.com and as an Android app (package com.storyos.app). Online features use the Story OS API at https://api.mystoryos.com.
Account data
If you register, Story OS stores your email and a password hash on the server for sign-in. Google sign-in uses the name, email, and picture your Google account provides. Session tokens are stored in the browser (web) so you stay signed in. Offline local writing does not require an account.
Writing and projects
Project titles, manuscripts, Story World / Story Memory, and related writing data are stored on your device (local SQLite) and, when you are signed in and online, on the Story OS server so the library can sync. You can delete projects in the app; device copies remain until you delete app data.
AI and voice
When you use AI features (generation, Check Story, import assistance, voice, and similar actions), manuscript text, prompts, and related content are sent to the Story OS API and may be sent to OpenAI to complete that request. Voice features may send audio for speech-to-text and return generated audio for text-to-speech. AI usage (operation type, model, token counts) is recorded to enforce plan limits.
Analytics
The app does not include a dedicated analytics SDK, crash reporter, or Google Analytics package in the current product code.
